I HELP YOU GO FROM ENTRY-LEVEL PAY-CHECK-TO-PAY-CHECK TO BECOMING A CUSTOMS BROKER ON YOUR WAY TO SIX-FIGURE CAREER AND INDUSTRY RESPECT
My story
In 2012, when I moved back from Florida to my native Minnesota I was seeking out import-export and supply chain jobs.
I didn’t know where to start, so I attended as many networking events as I could and took courses at the local community college on import-export, international business, and supply chain.
I sought out and invited people to meet for coffee who had career titles I thought I would be interested in: supply chain analyst, global trade compliance specialist, import-export analyst, logistics specialist, and Customs broker.
These titles seemed exciting, in-demand and global, attributes that resonated with me.
However, as I applied to similar positions I still found it tough breaking into the industry to gain the experience I needed.
The reason? I lacked the necessary credentials and work experience employers were looking for to get a foot in the door.
As I joined my local supply chain professional association and networked with leaders in my field, I started to figure out what credentials were both in-demand and suitable for me, learned how to obtain them, and learned how to leverage them while job-hunting.
What a difference the right credentialing and a couple of years of work experience can do!
I was now more in-demand than ever, career opportunities started opening up, and I was much more confident during job-interviews.
From this vantage point, after ten years in the industry, I discovered the essential skills and education to succeed in supply chain.

As someone who has an interest international business and Asia, I naturally gravitated to trade, import-export, and supply chain.
Trade compliance is simply helping companies comply with US federal rules and regulations on the importation and exportation of goods coming into or leaving the US.
As a compliance professional, you play an important role in the supply chain by helping shipments clear Customs.
